As part A of this article discusses, overloading a lawyer or law firm’s website’s design with splash images or photo galleries can significantly slow down the site’s load speed. In turn, this leads to prospective clients leaving the site. Another issue that lawyers should be aware of with splash images is whether the images are relevant to the message the law firm wants to convey, which is discussed in this article.
Images Relevant to Law Firm Website Content
The second issue lawyers must consider when designing or redesigning their law firm website with splash images and galleries is that the images need to be relevant to the law firm’s practice areas or the message the lawyers want to convey.
It is very common for lawyers to put a tagline with the splash images, but often, the tagline does not match the image.
As an example, we were recently asked to review a lawyer’s website in terms of its design and search engine optimization (SEO). The lawyer’s home page had a rotating gallery with pictures that had taglines like “experience” and “knowledge”. However, the pictures associated with the taglines were pictures of a young woman and a young man. The pictures did not match the message the lawyer was trying to convey. Granted, the pictures of the young woman and young man were very nice, but they looked more like advertisements for clothes.
If you are redesigning and adding splash images or photo galleries to your law firm’s website, be mindful of the effect on load time and make sure the images are relevant to the law firm’s message and/or practice areas.
